Texas’ European Home Design Mecca to Showcase Artistic Provocateurs — CASA Houston Teams Up With a Top Dallas Gallery

A cutting-edge collaboration between one of Houston’s preeminent European luxury furniture retailers and a major Dallas gallery — home to provocateurs and acclaimed market darling photographers Tyler Shields and David Yarrow — promises to energize the dialogue between art and design in Texas.

Cue CASA Houston and Samuel Lynne Galleries, Dallas, respectively owned by Jerry Hooker and biz partners JD Miller and Philip Romano, who just shared the news with PaperCity.

Currently installed at CASA Houston’s handsome Upper Kirby District 10,000 square-foot showroom (open both to the public and trade), the innovative conversation pairs high-end Italian interiors and home furnishings brands — think Giorgetti, Poltrona Frau, Rimadesio and Listone Giordano — with a presentation of five talents whom Samuel Lynne Galleries represents: Lea Fisher, JD Miller, Philip Romano, Tyler Shields and David Yarrow.

The three abstract painters — Fisher, Miller and Romano, Dallas-based practitioners of the Reflectionist movement — engage with the reductive beauty of CASA Houston’s well-edited home design collection.

Adding edge and impact are the photographic images of the internationally known Shields and Yarrow.

Agent Provocateurs + Elevated Italian Design

Shields, making his Houston debut, tantalizes the viewer with a heady mix of celebrity, consumerism, eroticism, decadence and fantasy. This Los Angeles based is the among the only living artists to be featured in a solo exhibition at Sotheby’s. As such, Shields is a fearless conjuror of images that confront the viewer, while turning them simultaneously into both spectator and conspirator.

For CASA Houston, Shields collaborates with Samuel Lynne Galleries’ co-owner artist JD Miller on an ongoing Masterpiece Collection, of which each image will be offered in only one completely unique photograph.

Then there’s Yarrow, an altruistic talent whose photographs regularly sell for in excess of six figures at auction.

Exhibited at CASA Houston are works such as American Hustle and Friday Night at The Pioneer joined by Yarrow’s signature wildlife subjects, which were recently highlighted in the artist’s second book, a lavish Rizzoli volume, David Yarrow Photography: Americas Africa Antartica Arctic Asia Europe. With a foreward by NFL superstar Tom Brady and an afterword by the illustrious model/lifestyle spokesperson Cindy Crawford, the collectible 2019 monograph donates all of its royalties to conservation causes Yarrow generously supports. That’s Tusk in the United Kingdom and WildAid in the United States.

In a statement, Samuel Lynne Galleries’ JD Miller notes: “In Houston, our artists will now be displayed alongside the world’s most prestigious furniture brands, offering unparalleled art and interior design options.”

“We are thrilled to provide a home for these esteemed artists to be showcased in Houston. . . creating an immersive interior design environment where everything you see from floor to ceiling is available for purchase,” says Jerry Hooker, owner of CASA Houston.

“Working with Samuel Lynne Galleries has challenged us to think outside the box to revamp our current showroom, and the finished product is an even more impactful and thought-provoking take on art as it relates to luxury interior design,” Hooker continues on the collaboration.

CASA Houston is located in Upper Kirby’s Arrive at 2800 Kirby Drive, Suite B100. It is open the public and trade, Mondays through Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm; 713-714-8105. Find additional info here.
